Do you have difficulty hearing? Or are you suffering from earaches or vertigo? It could be due to a build-up of ear wax. Having ear wax professionally removed is the best option. In this blog, we are going to outline how much it costs to have ear wax removed and briefly describe the process used.

Do I Have To Pay For Ear Wax Removal?

Yes. Ear wax removal used to be a free NHS service provided by GPs across England. However, as of 2020, ear wax removal is no longer free. A government minister confirmed that ear wax removal would no longer be one of the core services GPs are obliged to provide.

It is instead recommended that you speak to a pharmacist and try to remove the ear wax build-up yourself. However, anyone who has suffered from ear wax build-up will know that this is easier said than done. Ear wax build-up can cause hearing loss, earache, vertigo and a ringing or buzzing sound in your ears.

If you are suffering from ear wax build-up, it is important to have it removed professionally and safely by a trained clinician.

Here at Friel Hearing Services, we provide safe and effective Micro Suction ear wax removal. We have two clinics plus we offer home visits, which are ideal for people who cannot get to the clinic or people with mobility issues. Andrew Friel is a highly skilled clinician with years of experience in ear wax removal.

Why Should I Have Ear Wax Removed Professionally?

Medicines and oils can be used to try and dissolve ear wax so that it falls out of the eardrum. However, this can take weeks and is not always effective. Whereas professional ear wax removal has plenty of benefits:

  • It is carried out by a trained clinician
  • Micro suction technology is used to gently and carefully remove a build-up of wax. It is not painful or uncomfortable.
  • It provides instant relief and you don’t have to wait weeks for the wax to fall out.
  • With Friel Hearing, you can have ear wax removed from the comfort of your own home.

How Is Ear Wax Removed?

Ear wax is removed using micro suction technology – the safest and most effective way to remove a build-up of wax. Andrew Friel, of Friel Hearing, is one of only a handful of Private Hearing Aid Audiologists to offer micro-suction wax removal.

First, an examination using the latest in Video Otoscope technology will be carried out to determine whether wax is present in the ear canal and drum. Then, if excessive ear wax is present, micro suction will be used to gently and effectively remove the wax.

Micro suction uses a soft suction or vacuum and is much more comfortable than traditional ear syringing, which uses jets of water.

How Much Does It Cost To Have Ear Wax Removal?

The cost of professional ear wax removal varies depending on the clinician. Here at Friel Hearing Services, we always aim to provide an affordable and high-quality service. Our ear wax removal costs are as follows:

  • £50.00 – The cost to have ear wax removed using gold-standard Micro Suction technology in branch is £50. This is a standard charge irrespective of one or two ears. We have two branches in Lancashire, one in Blackburn and one in Poulton-le-Fylde.
  • £75.00 – The cost to have ear wax removed using gold-standard Micro Suction technology during a home visit is £75. Again, this is irrespective of one or two ears.

If no wax is present or wax is compacted and cannot be removed at your appointment another full charge will be incurred for another appointment.
