Yes. You can have your ears tested at home. A hearing assessment can be carried out at home by a professional, private audiologist. Here at Friel Hearing Services, we provide at-home hearing assessments in the Lancashire area.
A hearing assessment will determine whether or not you require a hearing aid to improve your day to day life. In this blog, we’re going to discuss at-home hearing assessments.
Who Will Benefit From Having Their Ears Tested At Home?
In the UK, 1 in 6 people has a degree of hearing loss. If you believe you cannot hear as well as you once did, it is important to have a hearing test. Around 40% of people over the age of 50 have some degree of hearing loss, so people aged 50+ are advised to have their ears tested regularly.
At-home hearing assessments are ideal for elderly individuals who struggle to leave their homes or cannot travel to a clinic. Similarly, they are beneficial for those with low mobility and those who have disabilities that make it challenging to leave the home
At-home hearing assessments are also ideal for adults and children with autism and similar disorders. For an individual with autism, having a stranger enter their personal space to assess their ears can be an incredibly challenging situation. This will be particularly stressful if they are in an unfamiliar location.
Having their ears tested a home, where it is comfortable and familiar may make the experience less stressful for them.
Having Your Ears Tested At Home: How Does It Work?
If you book an at-home hearing assessment with Friel Hearing Services, we will arrange a time and date that best suits you. Then, Andrew Friel, our highly trained and qualified private hearing aid audiologist will visit your home to carry out the hearing assessment.
We use only the very best equipment, just as we would at the clinic, so you get the full hearing assessment without compromise. Our at-home hearing assessment includes:
- Medical questionnaire and comprehensive history tasking
- Video Otoscopy – Allowing patients to view a video image within their ear. If wax is present, it could be the cause of hearing loss. Andrew can provide a fast and effective micro suction ear wax removal service without the need for a GP referral.
- Hearing Assessment using the very latest, high specification, diagnostic equipment. Sound insulating headphones are used to reduce ambient noise levels that may be present within the home. They also allow specialist high-frequency hearing testing.
- Tympanometry – Impedance testing is used to assess the condition of the middle ear more accurately.
- Comprehensive explanation of results – each client receives a copy of their Audiogram for their own records.
- Master Hearing Aid to demonstrate the benefits of amplification.
If the hearing assessment confirms that you have hearing loss, Andrew will discuss the hearing aid options. We have hearing aids to suit every budget. Our hearing aids are small and cosmetically discreet, so people don’t even have to know you’re wearing them! Plus, we offer a FREE 60 day trial on all hearing aids. You pay a 50% deposit, and if you don’t love them, we will provide a full refund.
How Much Does It Cost To Have Your Ears Tests At Home?
The price of at-home hearing assessments will vary from one audiologist to another. Here at Friel Hearing Services, we aim to make our services accessible to everyone. This is why our at-home hearing test costs just £75.00 (or £50.00 in-branch).
If wax is present, you may choose to have ear micro suction, which is £75.00 irrespective of one or two ears. Ear wax removal used to be an NHS service, but is no longer a free NHS service.
How Do I Book An At-Home Hearing Assessment?
If you would like your ears tested at home, you need to find your local private audiologist. Preferably one that is a hearing aid specialist and is trained in micro suction.
